Club Rules

About Us

 

The Tide Picks Club is a group of rabid Alabama Crimson Tide fanatics who also like college football in general.  For many years now we've had a tradition of each member picking a single game on Saturday to cover official odds in a group competition, with the season winner getting a steak dinner paid for by the rest of the club (to date no winner has ever collected on the steak dinner).


Our Mission:  Combine football, friends, and fun to overcome the mundane and conquer the fear of eating humble pie when last minute scores bust the spread!

Pick Rules

 

  1. You are only allowed one pick each week exclusively from FBS scheduled games.
  2. No picks are allowed for any Alabama Crimson Tide game!
  3. You cannot submit picks for multiple weeks in advance, only for  the current week's upcoming games.
  4. Picks will only be accepted after 12pm on Tuesday when the lines are realistic.
  5. The point spread for your pick is determined as published by vegasinsider dot com (the "VI Consensus" column) at the time of your pick.  That point spread is locked in when you make your pick.  If the spread changes later in the week it doesn't matter... your point spread was locked in when you made your pick.  Whiners should get some cheese to go with the whine.
  6. Pick must be submitted by group SMS text and the Commish must acknowledge receipt for it to be official (this is until Jacckkiieee gets the interactive section of the website running, at which time the Commish may allow it to be the system of record if the site passes his inspection).
  7. You cannot submit a pick that has already been chosen by another club member.  Note however that you can pick the same game as long as your pick is for the opposing team.
  8. The season winner is the one with the most picks that covered the spread.  In case of tie, the winner is determined by picks covering the spread by the widest margin (calculated by adding the actual spread for each pick from that season).
  9. To participate, a candidate member must be nominated by an existing club member and the Alabama Crimson Tide must be candidate's favorite team (candidate will be tested on this).  Nominator will also assign a nickname to the new inductee along with a few choice words describing them.

Club Members

 

  • Commish - Creator of the club, UA grad, and all around life of the party... spends billions in Vegas every year, isn't interested unless he has some action on it.
  • Bonita - Walking CFB encyclopedia, original founder, and wife of Commish (thinks this brings privileges but it doesn't).
  • DB - The third founder of the club (the original Bama Trio) who tries unsuccessfully to keep Commish in line... UA grad, and brother of current club champion (thinks this brings privileges but it doesn't.... also, "DB" does not stand for Defensive Back).
  • Beaner - Does not know rules of football but loves betting on games... marketing genius and etiquette queen (you wouldn't know this judging from husband DB).
  • Jacckkiieee - Reigning club champion with Ninja picking skills guaranteed to win again this year, UA grad, consummate wino, and has a DB for a brother.
  • Amster - Rabid Crimson Tide fan from Ohio (and she hates OSU!).
  • Junior - Newest member and Alabama graduate!  Has trouble remembering to get his pick in before the deadline every week!

Pay your annual club dues here (it really does work, even though it's never been used for 10 years).

Since club members are such tightwads, members of the public are welcome to donate to the club to help defray the costs of tailgating, game tickets, kids tuition, etc. Think of it as your way of "giving back".
